Fils du grand rabbin Alain Weil, il intervient vocalement dès l’âge de sept ans durant les offices à la synagogue paternelle ainsi qu’à la Grande Synagogue de Strasbourg sous la direction de René Jasner qui le prend sous son aile et lui montre le chemin vers le métier de 'hazan.
Dès lors cette passion pour le chant ne le quitte plus. Auprès de Michel Heymann il commence sa formation à la liturgie spécifiquement alsacienne et participe à quelques concours de chant sous l’égide du Consistoire de Paris.
En 1996, c’est en Israël qu’il poursuit son apprentissage par le rite polonais. C’est auprès de Haïm Eliezer Herchtick, un 'hazan qui jusqu’à aujourd’hui reste une immense référence et source d’inspiration pour lui, que Yacov Weil trouve sa "voix" et d’une certaine manière renoue avec ses racines polonaises familiales.
En 1999, il revient en Europe, plus précisément à Genève où il commence sa carrière de 'hazan en secondant Jacob Tolédano à la Synagogue Beth-Yaacov.
En 2001, Yacov Weil s'installe à Paris au séminaire rabbinique de France. Parallèlement, il poursuit sa carrière de 'hazan à la synagogue Notre Dame de Nazareth, puis à la Grande Synagogue de la Victoire où le 'hazan Adolphe Attia le forme à la liturgie parisienne.
Tout en continuant à chanter dans le chœur des "Jacinta’s zingers", Yacov Weil fait une pause dans sa carrière de 'hazan pour embrasser la carrière d’éducateur spécialisé à l’OPEJ.
En 2006, Yacov Weil est sollicité par la communauté de Sélestat en Alsace (France) pour redynamiser sa vie organisationnelle, religieuse et culturelle. Il lance l'initiative d'un grand concert pour la Paix le dimanche 11 mai 2008. En septembre 2008, il est officiellement nommé Cantor. Il quitte la communauté en juillet 2009 pour s'installer à Paris.
En septembre 2010, la rabbine Delphine Horvilleur demande à Yacov Weil de participer aux projets musicaux du MJLF (Mouvement Libéral Juif de France) et de co-officier avec elle, la rabbine Célia Surget et la rabbine Steven Berkowitz. Il y restera jusqu'en juin 2011.
Depuis, tout en officiant comme 'hazan à la communauté Massorti Adath Shalom, Yacov Weil poursuit son désir de partager son amour pour la musique sacrée et a développé avec Florent Labodinière (oud/guitare) et Clément Robin (accordéon) un répertoire musical varié basé sur des textes de diverses traditions, en yiddish, en ladino et en hébreu. Avec ce projet intitulé "HINENI", Yacov Weil crée un pont entre musique populaire et musique sacrée. Son chant évoque avec la même force la musique des rues, des exilés. Plus qu’un voyage, c’est une invitation à l’ouverture de l’esprit et de l’âme, au-delà des jougs culturels et religieux.
C'est au Café des Psaumes, rue des Rosiers, le 23 avril 2014, qu'a eu lieu le premier concert de Yacov Weil, Hineni. D'autres ont suivi dans ce même lieu, ainsi qu'au Festival Musical Juif de Carpentras en juillet 2014. Chaque concert est une expérience unique avec une grande liberté d'interprétation et d'improvisation. Les images se succèdent : une rue inondée du soleil andalou, l’intimité d’une synagogue polonaise ou alsacienne… Des lieux, des souvenirs qui se tissent, pour que le public, le temps du concert, vive et respire toute la richesse et la beauté poignante de la culture juive.
Depuis 2017, Yacov Weil est le rabbin de la communauté Beth Israel Ohev Sholem de Québec.

At a very early age, Yacov Weil was immersed in sacred music. The songs and the Chazzanout are the universe of his childhood in Strasbourg.
Son of the Great Rabbi Alain Weil, he started singing at the age of 7 during services at his father’s synagogue, as well as at the Great Synagogue of Strasbourg under the supervision of René Jasner who took him under his wing and directed him on the path a career as Chazzan.
This passion for singing remained with him. Its with Michel Heymann that he began training in liturgy, specifically Alsatian, and participated in a number of singing contests under the sponsorship of the Consistory of Paris.
In 1996, he pursued his learning of Polish rites in Israel. With Haim Eliezer Herchtick, a Chazzan who remains to this day an immense reference and source of inspiration for him, Yacov Weil found his voice and a certain means of re-engaging with his Polish family roots.
In 1999, he came back to Europe, to Geneva, where he began his career as a Chazzan, seconding Chazzan Jacob Tolédano at the Beth-Yaacov synagogue.
In 2001, Yacov Weil settled in Paris at the rabbinical seminary of France. Simultaneously, he pursued his career as Chazzan at the Notre Dame de Nazareth Synagogue, then at the Great Synagogue of the Victoire where the Chazzan Adolphe Attia trained him in Parisian liturgy.
While he continued to sing while participating in the chorus of "Jacinta’s zingers", Yacov Weil took a break in his career as a Chazzan while he pursued the career of specialized educator at the OPEJ.
In 2006, Yacov Weil was asked by the community of Sélestat in Alsace (France) to reinvigorate their organizational, religious, and cultural life. He launched the initiative of a large concert for Peace on Sunday, May 11th, 2008. In September 2008, he was officially named official Cantor. He left in July of 2009 and returned to Paris definitively.
In September 2010, Rabbi Delphine Horvilleur asked Yacov Weil to participate in the musical projects of the MJLF (Jewish Liberal Movement of France) and to co-officiate with her, Rabbi Célia Surget and Rabbi Steven Berkowitz. He remained there until June 2011.
Since then, while officiating as Chazzan at the Masorti community Adath Shalom, Yacov Weil pursues his desire to share his love for sacred music and has developed with Florent Labodinière (oud/guitar) and Clément Robin (accordion) a varied musical repertory based on texts from various traditions, in Yiddish, Ladino, and in Hebrew. With this project entitled "HINENI", Yacov Weil creates a bridge between popular and sacred music. His singing evokes with the same strength the music of the streets, of the exiled. More than a voyage, it is an invitation towards opening up your spirit and soul, going beyond cultural and religious yokes.
It’s at the Café des Psaumes, rue des Rosiers, on April 23rd, 2014, that the first concert of Yacov Weil Hineni took place. Others have followed in this same spot, as well as, at the Jewish Musical Festival in Carpentras in July 2014. Each concert is a unique experience with a great freedom in interpretation and improvisation. The images follow one after the other: a street inundated with the Andalusian sun, the privacy of a Polish synagogue or an Alsatian one…Places, memories that weave together, so that the audience, the time of the concert, lives and breathes all of the richness and poignant beauty of Jewish culture.
Since 2017, Yacov Weil has been the rabbi of the Beth Israel Ohev Sholem community in Quebec.
